Plant Stand from a Repurposed Piano Stool

A global designer-inspired DIY plant stand made from a thrifted piano stool using just spray paint and a doily for a quick and easy makeover.

Thrift store flips are right up there with pedicures, fresh brewed coffee, and a really good book for me… they’re therapy!

Last week, we hit a sleep regression with Regan, which has basically made me feel like a crazy woman.  So I only did my normal thing to relieve some stress during one of her super short 30 minute naps.  I painted my latest thrift find.  Isn’t it cute?!

I found this old piano stool for $15 and immediately knew the perfect spot for it, even though we don’t own a piano ourselves (and couldn’t begin to know how to play it, if we did).

So I whipped up this little project for this month’s Trash to Treasure Transformation Tuesday. (You can see my other blogger friends’ thrifty flips at the bottom of this post.)

We had this one little spot in the corner of our upstairs hallway where I knew this stool would look so cute with some greenery as a plant stand.

Just to add a fun detail, I grabbed this crocheted doily to create a pattern on top.

And since I knew I wanted some of the wood still showing alongside some white paint, I taped off a few places with painter’s tape.

I laid the doily on top of the stool and sprayed it with a light coat of spray primer first. Then, once the primer was dry, I sprayed it with a coat of white spray paint.

And I repeated the same primer/paint process on the legs.

It took all of 30 minutes and turned out SO cute!

Even though Regan hasn’t given me much time to get creative lately, this little project made me so happy to tap into that creative outlet for a quick paint therapy session that I’ve been missing.

I stuck this fake plant on top since it’s in a super dark hallway that doesn’t get any natural light at all when all of the doors are closed.  Doesn’t it look so real?!

It looks like it was meant to be a plant stand all along and almost has an Anthopologie-esque vibe to it.

And now this corner of our hallway has some life!  I’m a sucker for greenery despite my black thumb.

We’ve added a couple of other little details to our upstairs hallway too, but I’m waiting on one more before I share the final before and after.  That Children’s Shakespeare art always has my heart since Regan’s and Olivia’s names were both invented by Shakespeare.  #NerdAlert #ThisMamaHasAnEnglishDegree

And now this plant stand right beside our bedroom door makes me smile every time I walk by.  Yay for happy nooks and corners!
