DIY Personalized Stocking Tags + Printable Labels

Remember that one time about 4 weeks ago when I told you all about our new addition?  Stella, our once little 8 pounds of fluff, has tripled in size, has gotten to the point of drinking out of toilets, and is coming dangerously close to reaching food on our countertops.  Life is glamorous at our house right now.

She’s still clumsy as ever, like her legs are too long for her body, and her favorite pastime is whipping her head around to catch one of her own floppy ears to make it a chew toy.  This pup is a goofy nut case, and we already love her so much.  And even though Stella is big enough to win every wrestling match now, itty bitty Lola is still the boss.

So since we’re now a family of 5 (furbabies are family, you know), our old set of 4 stockings wasn’t going to work anymore… and a couple of them busted at the seams last year anyway since we go overboard with stocking stuffer excitement.

I wasn’t about to go and spend $200 on a set of stockings though.  Have you seen how much personalized stockings are?!!

So I improvised…

Supplies Used: (Some affiliate links are provided below for convenience.)

• Cable knit stockings from Target 
• Luggage tags (I snagged this set of 10 for under $8)
• Utility knife blade
• White cardstock paper & printer
• Twine
• Safety pins

I’ve used these leather luggage tags before for organizing our pantry cabinet, and while I was doing that whole process, I had a thought that they would be great for personalizing our plain stockings this year.

So I just cut out the clear plastic window of the tag with the knife blade, looped some twine through, and safety pinned them to the inside top of the stocking.

Voila!

I used the same labels from our pantry too since I love how simple yet charming they look.

I used Picmonkey to type my text onto my label using the font Parisienne.

If you’re a Picmonkey user, here are the steps to add your own names to your labels after you have downloaded the printable file to your computer:

• Start on the Picmonkey.com home page.
• Click the “Edit a Photo” button.
• Click “Open New” -> “Computer” -> choose the printable file you downloaded from me.
• Click the “Tt” button on the left side toolbar.
• Click “Add Text” and choose your preferred font.
• Type your name and size the text box as you wish.
• Move the text box on top of a blank label into position.
• Repeat for any other names.
• To save, click “export”.
• Print onto white cardstock, and you have antique style labels for your stockings.

If you prefer to work in Google Docs, you can use this video to help you add names to the labels.

Or if you have pretty handwriting, just wing it with a Sharpie and know that I’m very jealous of your skills.

These babies are looking pretty fancy considering they cost $130 less than the personalized designer stockings, and they’re every bit as cute.  Even just the stocking tags cost somewhere around $10 each usually, but ours that were 80 cents are hard to beat.

I’ve already been going overboard with scoping out fun stocking stuffers to put in them.  I think I have more fun with the itty bitty treats in stockings than I do buying the big presents.

Last week, I shared some of my favorite stuffers because my Amazon cart is about to burst over here with all kinds of goodies I’m planning for Robert and Olivia to find on Christmas morning.  And if Stella stops drinking out of the toilet, maybe Santa will put her back on the nice list.
