Blue & Neutral Christmas Bedroom

I was *this* close to not putting a stitch of Christmas greenery in our bedroom this year what with us wrapping up the exterior makeover and prepping for Christmas Eve dinner and all of the Christmas family activities we have on our calendar.  It just seemed kind of like, “Well, no one is going to see it but Robert and me.  And most of our time in this room is spent with the lights turned off anyway.”

But I was feeling kind of stressed last week… sometimes one of those days just catches up with me.  And my solution, as usual, was to decorate something.

It always works.  If I’m feeling anxious, I clean or organize or decorate a room, and I immediately feel a weight lifted off of me (almost makes me think I need to be anxious more often so more stuff will get done around here #hotmessexpress).  I’ve mentioned before how wintertime has that anxiety effect on me.

So I pulled these three preserved boxwood wreaths out of storage that we brought with us from the old house and stuck them up with some Command hooks and ribbon.

Those blue throw pillows were hanging around in our summer decor, but the great thing about solids is you can really use them any time of year. (All about that capsule, baby!)

Last week, I discovered this long lumbar pillow in HomeGoods with a busted zipper and a dirt stain on the back, so I got a major discount and figured no one would know with it sitting on our bed anyway. (Except, I guess I just told you. Oops! It’s our little secret.)

And on our nightstands, I just stuck these mini trees beside our lamps that came from Michael’s 60% off sale.

I like keeping this little jewelry box on my side of the bed too since I always end up dropping my earrings there before turning in.

I found these tabletop trees at Michael’s this year too that were the perfect size for our dresser.

That magnolia wreath followed us from the old house too along with that white pedestal bowl.

And $5 bunches of grocery store flowers are always my weakness.

I still had a few metallic ornaments leftover from decorating the living room and dining room trees, so I stuck the remaining ones in the bowl to reflect the candlelight around the room whenever we feel like lighting them.

Our master bedroom isn’t really that big, just enough to squeak by with a king sized bed that barely fits, but for the winter, I’m loving how cozy it feels.

We scored all of our furniture in this room at a local home shop on major clearance, and I’ve searched all over for pieces just like it with no luck.  It’s so funny to me that, in our last house, I always wanted to paint all of our furniture, and in this house, almost everything is wood.  Go figure.

Probably once Christmas is over, I’ll just remove the Christmas trees and ornaments and leave everything else exactly the way it is.  Blue is totally acceptable for January, right?  And maybe I can get away with boxwoods year-round.  Ya think?

It really is amazing what a little change in your surroundings can do for your peace of mind, to create a space where you can just “be” and enjoy the comfort of the season.

If you want to know about any of the sources in our bedroom, you can see them all here:

Did you decorate your bedroom for Christmas this year?  Or did you just stick to the main parts of the house?  Now that it’s done, I kind of wish I had done it sooner to make this room a little escape.

I cannot wait for Monday when Olivia will pile drive Robert and me at 6 a.m. to see what Santa brought.  Not even being sarcastic. I might even pounce on her in her bed if she’s not up by sunrise. 😉
