House Project Resolutions for 2019

I have to laugh at this “2019 house project resolutions” bit for a second because, if you’ve been around this blog for the past year and you remember last year’s 2018 House Project Resolutions post, you probably know that last year totally didn’t go to plan at all.

But it was all for a VERY good reason since shortly after writing last year’s project goals list, Robert and I discovered we were expecting.  So all of the plans for our landscaping, master bathroom, and my office quickly got swapped out for a nursery and Olivia’s bedroom (since we couldn’t have big sissy feeling resentful over little sis’s room getting all of the attention).

This year though… no more babies are in our plans (God willing).  We’re right back to Plan A on the drawing board, and I’m so excited to take y’all along for the ride as we’ve been dying to get our hands on these projects ever since Day 1 of moving in. Here’s the dealio for 2019!

1. The Master Bathroom

If you follow me on Instagram, you might have already seen my Stories on this space.  We are DYING to do a gut job in our master bathroom because it’s definitely our least favorite room in the house.  We already have an epic plan to totally rearrange the plumbing and utilize some storage opportunities to make it more functional.

The layout I have in mind will look something like this (although the style itself will be completely different).

But until we get the funds saved up for that, we’re doing a Phase 1 refresh on a tight budget this year, which we always like to do before the major stuff.  I’ll share more about that in the next few days though.  You can see all of the inspirations I’ve been pinning for it here, if you want a peek into some of the ideas I’ve been envisioning.

2. My Office

House Project Resolutions 2019 | Office

I am so excited about this beautiful space right beside our front door that we want to convert into my office (where I can hopefully, one day, branch out into establishing design services for actual clients).

The plan is to install a pair of closets to create storage and add a pair of double French doors to separate this once large dining room into a room that I can close off for a little more work/life balance. (The struggle is very real on that front some days.)

And you know what happens when you add a closet and a door to a room?  It counts as an additional bedroom which could eventually add real estate value to our house, if we sell. Boom, baby!

I’m really loving this look:

3. The Pool

House Project Resolutions 2019 | Pool

I’ve hardly ever shown our pool in our backyard because as much as we enjoy it in the summer, we have big dreams to beautify it and update some of its aging issues.  This year, it’s due for a new liner, so we’re hoping to give it a spruce up in the process.

I’m loving the idea of a dark liner and poured stamped concrete to look like stone.

One day, maybe in a year or two, we hope to convert that storage shed beside it into a fun outdoor bar too.  Maybe something like this?  One step at a time though. 😉

Seriously, how cool would that look?!

4. Landscaping

House Project Resolutions 2019 | Landscaping

Since our focus has been so devoted to the interiors the last year and a half, we’re feeling motivated to tackle our lawn, bushes, and flower beds that have gotten neglected.  A lot of weed pulling, lawn sprucing, and planting is in our future.

We can’t seem to get the idea of thick hedges and a paver walkway out of our minds:

5. The Kids’ Bathroom

House Project Resolutions 2019 | Kids' Bathroom

Technically, this space already got a makeover, but, much like what we’re planning this year for our master bathroom, it only got a Phase 1 refresh by using just paint and small decorative touches around the existing finishes on a shoestring budget until we could save up for a full gut job.  (I even painted the shower and countertop just so we could skate by on the cheap for a couple of years.)

Now, we finally feel like we can get our feet wet with our first ever full renovation in this house!  We’ll be totally replacing the 80s jetted tub and shower, fully ripping out the original vanity from 1960 with its bubbling veneer and busted drawers, and breaking up the beige floor tile for something more our taste with a classic design.

I’m loving the idea of clean black and white with some feminine accents for the girls (maybe slightly more frilly/whimsical than this):

6. Robert’s Office

I guess since 2018 was the year of the kids’ spaces, 2019 might as well be the year of the offices.  Robert’s office is basically a storage room at the moment, but we’re hoping to get started in making it his work space / man cave.

He approves of this design though. 😉

7. Back Porch Fireplace

House Project Resolutions 2019 | Back Porch

I have no idea if we’ll actually get around to this one, but we’re dreaming big over here and hoping to continue our back porch progress.  See that nook below that American flag art?  It used to hold a mini fridge, which means it has outlet access right behind that wall.

So we plan on transforming that wall into an outdoor fireplace with an electrical insert.  And we hope to get the job done for not too pricey since the electrical is already there.

I keep envisioning modern white clean lines:

8.  Master Bedroom Refresh

House Project Resolutions 2019 | Master Bedroom

We started decorating this bedroom when we first moved in, but there are still some things in this space that we’d love to elevate.  Dated, yellowed blinds are still hanging out in the windows, I’m dying for a full-sized mirror in here, and I keep envisioning some sort of pretty moulding on the wall behind our bed to add some character.

It might be one of those overly optimistic makeover ideas for this year, but we’re hopeful.

I love Bre’s moody, character-filled master bedroom wall from Rooms for Rent and keep coming back to it as an idea for our own:

9.  The Upstairs Hallway

House Project Resolutions 2019 | Hallway

This is another one of those spaces that we started but didn’t really finish besides that sconce light and art at the end.  I’m hoping to replace that old attic string hanging down, for one thing.  But this little spot is begging for something more.  More artwork, a plant, moulding, wallpaper… something.

I love how Brooke from Nesting With Grace has oomphed up her hallway:

So that’s my brain on 2019’s plans.  If it were an internet browser, you’d see a million little tabs open.  I can’t wait to take y’all along for the ride and see just how far we can transform this house even more by 2020, and I hope we can inspire y’all just a little bit in the process with ways to tackle it all on not too hefty of a price tag.

If you want to see more of the ideas that I’m diggin’ lately, you can follow me on Pinterest.

What do you think?  Are we moving in the right direction?  Believe it or not, we’ve barely scratched the surface on all of the things we want to do in this house, but we can’t seem to satisfy the itch to maximize its potential.
