If we have another cold snap, I’m wearing my flip flops and tank top in protest. Yes, I’ll look like a frozen blue-lipped idiot in the preschool pick-up line, but that’s the price I’ll have to pay for nature to get the point.
Because spring is on our front porch stoop and it’s here to STAY! (Well, until summer, I guess.)
Today, I’m joining in with Jennifer from Town and Country Living and a group of blogger friends for the Spring Styling Tour to share all of our best tips for decorating porches and entryways for spring.
But can I confess something first? We had our Christmas wreath still up all the way until the end of February. Oops. I’d forgotten all about it (we’re a back door entering crew on a typical basis).
With the brick lime washing job we wrapped up in December, this is really the first time I’ve actually decorated our porch stoop.
It’s a little space, but regardless of the size, I totally believe a small-ish stoop can still have tons of personality to greet guests when they visit.
If you have a front stoop on your house too, here are 4 easy tricks you can use to spruce it up: (Some affiliate links are provided below.)
1. Layer Rugs
I have no idea who came up with this idea I’ve seen floating all over Instagram lately (wishing I could take credit for it), but layering an outdoor accent rug under your welcome mat is so fun for adding big impact that you can change with the seasons. And it makes the front door stand out even more.
2. Hang a Wreath With a Command Hook
I really didn’t want to drive a screw into our vintage storm door, so an outdoor Command hook does the trick. This sunshine-y wreath jumped into my cart at Target the other day. Funny how they randomly do that when you’re not looking, huh?
3. Use Interesting Planter Pots
Robert actually found these blue ceramic planters on sale at Lowe’s last summer and surprised me with them because he said they just looked like me. That man knows the way to my heart. A pair of pots to jazz up some shade-loving plants is all you need.
4. Use Symmetry
There’s something about clean lines with pairs of plants on either side of the front door that says, “Come in”. You can never go wrong.
Oh, and I guess if you live in the South, painting your porch ceiling “haint blue” is a big ol’ bonus. We painted our ceiling in Benjamin Moore Palladian Blue just like our back porch, and it’s definitely my favorite detail.
