Navy and White Laundry Room Plans

Welp… we’ve finished painting the foyer, wrapped up a project outside, have a peek almost ready of our master bedroom’s progress, aaaaaand it’s been raining nonstop for 3 days.  Which means I have all of these projects and no way to photograph them in the dark since taking pictures with lamps on isn’t quite the same.  Booooo.

So more updates are coming very soon once the sun decides to come out to play.  (Maybe now is a smart time for me to learn photography light kits already but we kind of have other stuff going on. That’s a conversation for another day.)

In the meantime, Robert and I have been making lots more progress on our laundry room!  I shared a full “before” tour and peek of its fancy new paint job the other week.  I’m stoked about the direction it’s taking in there!

Last time I shared about this space, it looked like this.

That fresh coat of Sherwin Williams Slate Tile on the walls made such a huge difference from how it used to look…

At this point, we’ve now painted the cabinets and added new hardware, hung a little wall decor, added a new bifold door (there was a peek of it earlier this week for the summer tour of homes), and we’ve gotten more of an organization system figured out.  At this point it’s just the details; of course, that’s always the fun part.

Right now, here’s my brain on laundry room madness… (Some affiliate links are provided below for convenience if you’re working on your laundry room too.)

1.  Lighting- We currently have a fluorescent light in this room that I absolutely despise.  Every time I try to open our top cabinet door, it slams smack into the light.  Ridiculous.  And it’s not that pretty to look at anyway, so I’m more than happy to replace it with this vintage style semi-flush mount light.  It’s only $43!
2. Paint Color-  We used this paint color Sherwin Williams Slate Tile in the Lowe’s Spring Makeover (which I promise is coming soon if we can ever get our act together to wrap up some loose ends). I loved it so much I had to have it in our house too.  It’s the perfect deep dusty blue.
3. Window Treatment- To add a little texture and help filter the sunlight that blares through the window in the late afternoons, we’re hanging up this driftwood Roman shade. We had this same one in our old master bedroom and it was even more beautiful in person.
4. Washer and Dryer- We scored our Samsung washer and dryer on a big sale all the way back in February for a good deal. And then there was a major snafu with the delivery, so we were given floor models for only $350 each, which was a steal. Total accident but happy outcome. Yay!
5. Cabinets- We’re using the existing cabinets in the room for now. Maybe one day we’ll replace with updated ones, but they still work just fine.  A coat of Benjamin Moore Simply White has perked them right up.
6. Wall Decor- I actually bought this mirrored laundry sign on sale for our old house’s laundry room and never used it.  I love how it bounces light around to brighten up the space. You think anyone in our house will take heed the “self-service” part? I can dream.
7. Hardware- Switching our dated cabinet knobs for these antique bronze ones are an easy facelift.
8. Hooks- We’re swapping our plain hooks on the wall for these more ornate ones. They coordinate with the knobs beautifully!
9. Drying Rack- I don’t know if I can handle paying $100+ for a drying rack, so we might DIY this one. This tutorial is one we might try.
10. Apothecary Jars- I swear I use these things everywhere.  They’re great for holding dryer sheets, clothespins, loose change, that kind of thing without junking up the place. This apothecary set is the best price I’ve found on them.
11. Baskets- We have a few open shelves below our cabinets that these baskets would be great for tossing mate-less socks in. Those poor lost soles.  (Get it? Har har. I’m sorry.)

1. Floor stencil-  Our vinyl floor needs major love, but we’re thinking we’ll replace the flooring when we replace our breakfast nook / kitchen tile one day. So as a phase 1 for now, this subtle stencil would be pretty.
2. Hamper- I snagged this hamper on sale for 30% off months ago for our old laundry room and we never got around to giving it a makeover before selling the house. It’ll still work great in here though. I love that it’s on wheels!
3. Detergent dispenser- This hobnail-like dispenser is so cute and not too pricey.  Great for ditching the plastic detergent bottles that seem to collect all over the place.
4. Wall decor- I’m planning to paint our electrical box cover, and possibly hang some vintage laundry photographs in simple frames on either side of our window.  These are from art.com, but I might try to snag free ones in the public domain to put in dollar store frames instead. (This print, this print, this print, and this print are my favorite clothesline shots on interesting landscapes and cityscapes.)
5. Peg board baskets- We have a peg board beside our dryer that will be great for cleaning supply storage, so these wire peg mount baskets will work well there.
6. Ironing board cover- I picked up this ticking stripe ironing board cover from Walmart very similar to this one from Pottery Barn.  I love that it has a pattern but it’s still subtle.

What do you think so far?  I had no idea where I was going in this room until after we’d painted it, and now I can finally start seeing it come together.
