Confession: I buy furniture at thrift stores and then let it sit in my garage for 6 months.
Robert LOVES that I do that. (Snicker snicker.) I’ll find a piece that is just “too good to pass up”, tell myself “I’m going to give it a makeover tomorrow”, and then somehow I get distracted. (Oh, look! Something shiny!) Do you do that too?
But with this move coming up as we’re cleaning out all of the leftover projects, here I was stuck with the what-was-supposed-to-be-the-playroom-coffee-table.
So I figured it was perfect to give a quick facelift for another Trash to Treasure Tuesday.
Back in November, when we were in playroom makeover mode, I decided at the last minute that a coffee table in our playroom wasn’t necessary. We already had a small play table and built-in desks- plenty of tables as it was. I wanted Olivia to be able to run around and sprawl out in the floor, so I realized after I’d already hauled a thrifted one into our garage that I should just completely nix the idea.
But then, there was still the table untouched in our garage…
So just for fun, since I figured I had to do something with it, I gave it a quick couple of coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in Mustard.
It looks like legit mustard… or Chick-fil-a sauce. Yummy yum yum!
I didn’t do anything fancy other than add paint since I loved the brightness of it already. (And I’ve mentioned before how much I use this paint all the time because it really is just a no prep, no sealer, one-and-done kind of deal.)
The playroom has been the wild card in our house- a space where I can have a lot more fun with color and experiment with pieces I normally wouldn’t use in the rest of the house. Mustard was definitely one of those wild card kind of colors for me.
Isn’t it cuuuute?! It’s fun taking a break from the super neutral farmhouse vibe sometimes. Keeps decorating interesting.
I’m really sad we’ll be leaving this space in a couple of weeks as other rooms in the house are already packed up in boxes, but it was a lot of fun to play with one more makeover just for kicks. (But the new house also has a space perfect for transforming into a playroom, so we won’t be missing it for long.)
In all of the stress of packing up, painting something was just what I needed. Instant mood brightener.
I felt like this was sort of my way of saying goodbye to this sweet little spot in the house. Thank you darling playroom; you’ve been so good to us.
Right after I photographed this coffee table, which I nicknamed “the school bus”, I sold it in our moving yard sale this past weekend. We’re in major purge mode around here, and the whole point of painting this one was really just to get it out of our garage and sold quickly.
I’m so glad we’ve waited to pack up this playroom though since it’s the one spot in the house where Olivia can stay entertained coloring and building with her blocks and exploring with her toys while Robert and I are in full on adulting mode to get things ready. It’s where she can still escape the chaos and have a sense of normalcy amidst the big changes.
