Repurposed Bench Coffee Table Makeover

While social media has been blowing up with mudslinging and heated political arguments as we gear up for Election Day, I’ve been over here with my paint brush thinking, “I’ll just decorate and make things pretty until all of this goes away.”  (Which could be never and I’ll stay in my little creative bubble forever, but that’s fine by me. Painting is my therapy.)

Lately though, I’ve been so thankful for the most perfect fall weather with lots of sunshine and that slight chill in the air that makes you crave warm fuzzy sweaters and hot apple cider.  For a while, I’ve wanted one little extra piece of furniture to make our fall porch a tad more cozy.

This bench:

I found this simple bench on my local Facebook buy/sell/trade group for just $10 and decided it would be perfect as a cute coffee table for our porch.  Pardon that not-so-spectacular before shot, but I had to snag it from the Facebook seller’s listing since I lost my memory card. Oops.

But I wasn’t diggin’ the color scheme, so I gave it a quick paint job just in time for this month’s Trash to Treasure Transformation Tuesday.  (You can see all of the other thrifty flips at the bottom of this post too.)

I love lots of neutrals and white all over the place, but sometimes I crave a pop of color. (Apparently fall makes you crave a lot of things?  The pumpkin spice craze makes total sense now.)

If I ever want to incorporate color but don’t want anything too drastic, soft blues and greens are always my picks.  So this new color Bayberry that Fusion Mineral Paint just introduced into their paint line worked perfectly.

It has a beautiful cool undertone that works well with blue accents.

You can buy the paint online here if you’ve ever wanted to try it out.  I’m usually a Fusion fanatic just because I don’t have to prep and seal a piece of furniture before I paint it, and I don’t have to seal it afterwards like I always have to do with chalk paint.  You can sand and distress it like chalk paint too if you want, depending on your style.

I didn’t attempt distressing this little bench though since I didn’t want any of the old color underneath showing through, but I’m glad I kept it simple.

Since we had Hurricane Matthew come barreling through a few days ago, I had to bring in all of my fall porch decor from last month.  The punch of green just gave me an extra excuse to play around with the new set up out here.

Now that Olivia is back in her Mother’s Morning Out program a few times per week, I can sneak out here with my coffee to soak in our cool fall mornings to answer emails or have a little devotion time whenever I get a chance.  It’s amazing what some fresh air can do for the soul.

The rest of the decor out here ended up mostly consisting of thrift store and clearance aisle finds. Those are always the best kind. 😉

Since some of y’all usually ask, I rounded up some of the decor sources:  (Affiliate links are provided below for convenience. For more info, see my full disclosure here.)

Once Christmas rolls around, this little green bench will still look good for prettying up with evergreen and holly berries all around it… in 11 MORE WEEKS!!!  (Okay, sorry. I’ll stop.)
