You know the perfect place to clear your head of creativity block and paint fumes? The beach. So that’s where I am currently, squeezing in the last summer days of salt and sand for a much needed family trip to recharge my batteries a bit.
But I couldn’t leave y’all with radio silence for an entire week (I love you guys too much to do that), so I’ve asked several of my best blogger friends to pop in for a Budget Designer Series and share their homes with you along with some of their favorite budget decorating tips. I hope you’ll be as inspired as I am. I’ll let my friend Sonya take over from here…
Blessings,
Lauren

Thank you so much Lauren for having me today, I’m so honored to be here.
Hey everyone, my name is Sonya and I am the blogger, creator, writer, photographer and little detail maker behind At Home with The Barkers. Like Lauren, I love modern farmhouse style decor with a twist of traditional and fun, always on a budget. Inspiring others to love the home they are in is what I enjoy most.
Decorating your home doesn’t have to be as hard as many people think it is. There is one word in home decor and my very favorite that can change any space into the room you will love to be in.
PAINT!
Paint is my number one answer to almost every decor problem. When my husband and I first were married, 22 years this month, a can of paint was truly all we could afford. We were broke college grads with student loans, credit cards and car payments. Paying someone to paint was totally out of the question.
Luckily I’ve always been creative and crafty. I did let my best friend help me highlight my hair super blonde the week before my wedding. Although I wouldn’t recommend it, it turned out pretty great.
I thought sharing how I use paint in my own home to get the look I want would be a great place for us to start.
I totally changed the look of my bathroom with paint and a little art swapping. This bathroom makeover was recently featured on the Country Living Instagram page and so many people loved that paint made such a huge difference. I think it looks great and one can of paint is so affordable.
Using only primer on our shed makeover walls, ceiling and floor made such a huge difference it was amazing! You read that right, ONLY primer white.
I also love painted furniture. There are so many different types of paint out there to help with any furniture project. Of course, if you have never painted furniture before don’t start with you best piece. Practice on a thrift store or road side find. You will thank yourself later.
This bedroom set I painted for a client is a great example. Sorry for the photo from the back of the truck it was all I had. This project has been one of my readers very favorite painted furniture post. Black is the perfect color for any style decor too.
I’m glad I saved our very first table we purchased because it has a special place in my heart but wasn’t being used in my current kitchen. So I painted this dining set for our shed makeover.
Don’t forget the little detail items like accessories. Painting lamps is one of the most affordable home decorating tricks I have.
Like this brushstroke lamp.
Or this spray painted lamp shade.

It has been so much fun hanging out with you all today and I hope you found something you’re inspired to paint! I would be so thrilled if you joined me on my blog At Home with The Barkers or on my Instagram feed.
Thanks again Lauren for allowing me to guest post for you today!
