It’s been a little while since I’ve done a budget home decor shopping guide. (I know they’re not as exciting as the massive room reveals or anything, but I hope that while I use them to make decisions for our own home that they’re still really helpful to you guys.)
If you follow me on Instagram, you might have already seen this one coming in this post.
Yep. I’m ready to part ways with the curtains in our living room. They did nothing wrong, poor things. But since I picked them out nearly three years ago as one of the very first decor items for our house, my style seems to have changed quite a bit.
Plus, I’ve learned over time, that they’re sort of frustrating to find throw pillows to coordinate with them. Almost everything clashes with them. I love changing out our pillow covers with different ones for the current season, but having patterned curtains makes it limiting. So, sorry curtains, it’s me, not you.
(By the way, photographing windows is really really hard.)
The one thing that’s always bugged me a little is that they also have the “high water” look going on.
When Robert and I first hung them, I realized they were about 3 inches too high from the floor, but since Robert absolutely despises installing curtain rods, I didn’t have the heart to tell him. (The guy would rather build furniture all day than install one little curtain rod. I know, it makes no sense to me either.)
So for the past few days, I’ve been on the search for the best replacement. I dug up 10 of my favorites that are all under $40 (many for under $20 per pair), and they’re still really long so they can be hung up high to make the room and windows look larger while still having that pretty puddling effect on the bottom. Or they can be hemmed, depending on your style.
I plan on switching out our plain white blinds for woven wood Roman shades for extra texture too. I can’t wait to see the dramatic difference it will make in here.
Do you have a favorite of the bunch? Or a pair you think would look the best in our living room? Do you have a favorite place you always shop for curtains? I would just sew some myself but… my sewing skills are about as spectacular as my gardening skills. Somehow those genes skipped over me. It’s not pretty.
P.S. For something a little different and just for fun, I’ve been thinking of interviewing Robert a.k.a. the crazy grunt labor around here and letting him take over the blog for the day. What do you think?! I’d love to get some questions to ask him from you guys! Click here to submit your questions for him.
